I don't know Sir!

I don't know Sir!๐Ÿ˜…

I know this for sure:
Almost all of us, have been through a moment where we can’t answer the question asked by the interviewer, professor or any person who is supposed to ask you questions."
UNKNOWN

I don’t know who said this but it is quite true!
I’ve recently been through the same feeling…
And to be honest, one out of every five students faced the same problem!
What problem?
VIVA!

At first, I didn't know what it meant. But then I found out that it's the same oral test that we used to take when we were kids.
It was just a professional name for the same old pre-exam routine.
And as the years roll on, they kinda get tougher!
And then the day comes when you have  to confess to the professor that you can't answer his/her question.

The Viva in engineering course is actually a boon for the students.
Many hear some terms for the first time. Their jaw drops when the examiner asks them about the things they haven't heard before. That is the time when students actually start studying for their written tests.

I've had numerous moments where I didn't know the answers to the questions asked.
I have 3 options in front of me in such situations.
1) Recollect- I can recollect things if I know them. It's difficult but it's the first thing one should try to do. (If you take too long, you might get choked because of the pressure on the hot-seat.)

2) React- Use your intelligence and just makeup something that sounds appropriate instead of looking at the professor like a mannequin.

3) Refuse- Kindly refuse the professor without wasting any time. Cause if you take much time staring at the professor's beautiful eyes, he might call the next candidate.

On the day of the Viva test, all the students gathered in the class before the test started. Now, here's the thing that should be taken into consideration…
These interviews are conducted by an external examiner. That means we do not know who's gonna interview us till the time of test.
So students who are in the second batch make sure that they ask the students from the first batch about the examiner.
Students are very keen to know the psychology of the examiner.
Does the examiner turn aggressive after the lunch break?
Does the examiner prefer students with formal clothes on?
What should be done to impress the examiner so he/ she asks us the simplest questions?
Honestly, all the engineering students turn into psychologists in this season.๐Ÿคฃ
Everybody tries to predict the examiner's behavior.

As you can see, the people from the second batch have an edge over the first as they get to know the tendencies of the examiner.
But still, the examiners who conduct Vivas are tough to be predicted.

At the time of the test, the students stand in a queue outside the classroom or the laboratory or place where the Viva is to be conducted.
The first student in the queue is the most anxious person in the class. Whenever his number is called, he enters. The next student tries to peep inside the class cause he's the second most anxious person!
One minute, Five minutes, Ten minutes, Minutes go by…
The third student keeps staring into nowhere like he's waiting outside the operation theatre and his relative has been admitted in the room.

All the other students are nervous as well. But they are busy preparing the things they haven't or were asked to the first batch.
And what can I say about them? They are everywhere!
In the classes, on the stairs, on the floor…
Thank god the terrace has a lock on its door!
The first batch is less stressed cause everything that comes under their way is a surprise!

The first student comes out of the class.
And out-of-nowhere all the students start asking him questions.
All the students around him the paparazzi or news reporters!
They want to know it all!
What did the professor ask?
Is the professor lenient?
And I think that the first person enjoys that kind of treatment.

Everyone has to bring the college file where all the assignments, all the experiments are contained.
I'm pretty much sure that an engineering student writes more on the assignment sheet than his own notebook!
Anyway, you have to submit the certified file during the exam.

Usually, the Vivas are accompanied by the practical examinations. And the practical exam carries more marks. But students are more scared about the Viva.
And it's true for every student doing the professional course.
It's because Viva is the only event where your communication skills and knowledge are tested.

Even though it is a small event, one should love the process. Cause just like small things matter in life, a small amount of marks matter too.
Ask the student who tops the class, he wants the marks to ensure he tops again.
Ask the student who doesn't top, he wants the marks to ensure that his report cards do not look ugly.
No matter what we think about the Vivas, we can't escape it!
It's once in a semester experience…
Once in a semester thrill…

No wonder most actors in the industry are engineers!๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚

  4. As far as the difficulty of the viva has to be considered, it never changed for me. As a matter of fact as I grew up, I became more and more dumb :p
