A Sports festival with joy and sorrow
Just like
every year, our college organized the annual sports festival!
Everyone
was happy and busy preparing for the festival. Students were selecting the
teams for the different sports. Football, Cricket, Basketball, Relay races, and
various indoor games were to be played in the college playground. The ground was
leveled, the turf was cleaned and everything was set.
3 days at the sports festival gave us a chance
to refresh our minds and a reason to bunk the lectures.
Every college organizes such a festival. And if you look for yourself, all the names
given to these sports festivals are weird sounding like the era of WW2.
I’m pretty
much impressed that such names manage to attract sponsors.
Anyway,
this event is pretty much fun.
Some
colleges allow participation from other colleges. This increases the
competition, the crowd and the sponsors (Wink Wink).
In our college, classes from all the branches
and years form teams to compete with each other.
This year, the Sports festival started with full excitement for us! In the second year, new students from diploma courses joined our college.
So we had more players to play for
the teams.
The
selection for the teams started right before a fortnight the festival was going
to start.
All the teams had printed their own jerseys.
Sports day in every college is an absolute college festival. I mean that every
member who is directly or indirectly associated with the classroom enjoys the
festival! Even the students who don’t participate in the sports attend the
festival to cheer for their teams.
Dr.
Workaholic was on the volleyball team. And I must admit that he is really
natural in that. Dr. Workaholic, the one who eats food from every person’s
lunchbox is fat. But when you see him play volleyball, he’s on another level of
fit. He becomes so extreme for his love for volleyball, that he wanted me to
play a sport as well!
With that been said, he made me join the
football team.
Matches
were scheduled for two days and the last day was reserved for the finals!
We had a
pretty strong team. We were confident that we will win…
Everyone was happy. 3 days of enjoyment and no
lectures…
On the first day, that is the inauguration ceremony; our college invited a
professional Kabaddi player to inaugurate the festival. The ground was really packed
by the students. The lawn, the artificial turf, the clubhouses, and the college
gymnasium were surrounded by the supporters waiting for the matches to start. And of course the stalls of the vendors who happened to be the sponsorers for the festival!
The game was on!
Day 1:
The first day was really fun. Our class won most of the matches played. If I had to
say about individual sport (Chess), two students from our class were doing
really well. They were on a winning streak.
Our kabaddi
team won the first match without preparation and that was pretty much cool!
Our
volleyball team outperformed the other team under the captaincy of Dr.
Workaholic.
Mr.
Tenacious and I were watching the matches and cheering for our teams.
The cricket
match was won with a great margin.
The
football match was won as well. Our striker played beautifully!
A Ronaldo
fan struck a brilliant goal at the end of the half time!
And yes! The basketball team lost but against a
good team.
Day 2:
The second day was not really good but it was satisfactory. We won another volleyball match because of the
brilliant play of the class CR and other players. Unfortunately,
we lost the cricket match. And as the cricket match took a lot of time, the
football match was postponed to the third day.
The girl’s
team was trying their best at the same time. I should say it.
To make
things better, the runners from our class won the relay race.
They did
really well.
I wonder what these guys were doing at an
engineering college!
Day 3:
The third
day was crucial for the volleyball, football and chess players. Cause these
teams were in the play-offs. They couldn’t have afforded to lose. The first
match that was scheduled was football!
The Second-year Computer Engineering team was to play against their seniors, Third-year Computer
Engineering team.
So we knew
it was going to be tough!
We were all
dressed up for the match and waiting for our striker…
The
opposition team was waiting for the match to start as well.
Captain
called him several times and nobody picked his phone up. Finally, the call
was answered by the police. Our striker friend had met an accident on the way to the
college. Our beloved friend had left us and the football field forever!
Now here, I won’t go into much detail, I don’t even have any right to say anything
further about this.
I’m sorry
if some of you didn’t expect this to be written in the blog.
But I’ll be extremely grateful if you took a thing or two from this blog.
Every morning we wake up, there’s a brand new day in front of us. Try to make most of
it. Live a life without any regrets!
If you
wanted to confess to your parents that you’ve scored less marks in this test,
do it!
If you want
to ask your doubts to the professor who is really strict, do it!
If you have
to talk to your friends about something you really want to talk about, do it!
If you want
to ask that girl in your class out for eating a Vada pav, do it!
At the
beginning of the day, you had nothing to lose.
At the end of the day, there’s nothing you can’t
lose.
You’re
young, with lots of energy. Even though it is the case, never ever rush if
you’re late for something.
Always
remember that there’s a family at your home wishing for your safety.
No matter
how important work may be, it is not more important your life.
If you’re
afraid of being late, get there early…
And hey! Life can be unfair sometimes, so accept
it the way it is!
The striker
didn’t die because only of his own fault. Maybe the time wasn’t right.
So, tighten
your ass and accept that there will be times where things will go wrong even if
you did the right thing!
Own it and keep on fighting!
Finally, to
conclude, the matches were scheduled again after a week and the Second year
Computer Engineering Students won the football tournament!
The volleyball team bagged second place.
Well,
everyone happy of course!
But missed the person who could’ve been there
with us…Rest in peace brother, you'll always be remembered
Congratulations bro...!!

ReplyDeleteIf you want me to reply that this is the best comment I got today, I did it bro!
DeleteBruh, that story of your striker. It reminded me of my childhood. When I was in 8th class. Me and my friends we loved to play football, and our school's turf was the best place to play. So me and my friends occasionally used to go there and play. Many of my teacher used to live very close to our school, so their children used to come there as well like us. There was this guy(whose real name I'll be keepin, just call him ajay), so Ajay was an only child of my teacher and he used to play with us. He was also very interested in it. We used to play with him and he was very nice guy. We always use to treat him as our little brother since he was 2 yrs younger than us. But one day, he stopped coming to play. And at school we came to know that he was in hospital in the ICU ward. He had some problem since his birth, and with age it grew worse. And one day our one teacher told us that he died. It was a very weird feeling to lose a friend of your one random day, since at that age I have never experienced that feeling. His father, our teacher was devastated, and went dark for few weeks. And then returned to continue teaching. IDK man what to say.....
ReplyDeleteYeah, that's the worst thing. The news of a young person's death always makes us realize how unpredictable life can be!
DeleteAnd it's natural to fall short of words for him. No one would've imagined that.
I'm happy that you could express your feeling in the comment section.
Really appreciate it...
Awesome work bro keep it up. We will always miss our bro (Sid) RIP.
ReplyDeleteThat's for sure, He will always be missed...
